Engaging with Young People from Minority Ethnic Backgrounds
Facilitated by: Hanna Miyir and Gareth Hicks and young people from the BME community.
Exploring the issues faced by young BME people throughout Wales. Identifying the gender specific issues. Highlighting tools for effective and positive engagement with young people.
The session is again from 10am – 2pm and includes refreshments and a networking lunch.

Consultation at BVSNW
The Black Voluntary Sector Network Wales (BVSNW) offers professional consultation services specifically tailored to the needs of voluntary sector organizations, local and regional authorities and the private sector.
Our expertise of working with minority ethnic communities across Wales has been demonstrated when working for the Welsh Assembly Government, Cardiff Council, The Prince’s Trust, The Communities First Network, CyMAL, and South Wales Emergency Services among others.
Recent Consultations:
BVSNW carried out a consultation process with the Gypsy-Traveller
Community between 2009 and 2010 in twelve of the nineteenth Local
Authority sites across Wales on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government.
Between 2007-2008 BVSNW developed and delivered the SIGN POST project
by consulting with BME young people and organizations that work with them.
In 2009 BVSNW and CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries held a series
of consultation events across Wales to seek the views of BME individuals in
relation to CyMAL’s online collection and digital resource of people’s history
and heritage in Wales.

Events Management
BVSNW specialise in all aspects of event development, planning and management.
We have 12 years experience of planning and facilitating cultural events that attract
all members of our society. We also provide assistance and advice where organisations
would like help in attracting participants from all sections of their particular targeted communities.
Recent examples of our diverse cultural events have been the hugely successful and highly
attended Black History Month and Chinese New Year celebrations that took place at the
Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.

Currently, BVSNW are delivering a series of "Gang Awareness" Training sessions to officers at Parc Prison, Bridgend. The training is to give the officers an idea of what constitutes a 'gang', the reasons behind how some people get involved and an overview of general gang systems, signs, locations and activities.
We have been contracted by WAG to carry out consultation across the 16 Communities First areas of Caerphilly to provide a profile of diversity, identify good practice and identify gaps and opportunities for BME communities to better access services.
