BME Women’s Film Club

BME Women’s Film Club

The club, which has its roots in the Wales One World Film Festival, provides regular showings and offers BME women the opportunity to access contemporary films from their own cultures as well as others that they may not ordinarily have access to. It also provides the women an opportunity to come together, meet and socialise in a safe environment. Due to the project’s success in Cardiff, it has now been extended to Newport and Rhondda Cynon Taff. The project is supported not only by BVSNW and the Arts Councils for Wales but by a number of other partners in the relevant geographical areas, which includes Voluntary Action Cardiff, Chapter Arts Centre, University of Glamorgan, Valleys Race Equality Council, GAVO & River Front Arts Centre (Newport).

BME Workers Forum

Team members at BVSNW through their interaction with other BME community practitioners identified the need for a network to bring together other BME workers across South Wales to explore the need to:

  • Share experiences
  • Support one another
  • Develop practical and professional good practice and information
  • Create a collective voice for BME workers

As a result a forum has been set up which has attracted 30 BME workers. BVSNW is co-ordinating this and providing administrative support to take the network forward.
